O’Mahony captains Lions in first Test vs New Zealand

Munster and Ireland back row Peter O’Mahony has been handed the captains armband by Warren Gatland for the British and Irish Lions first test against the All Blacks in Auckland on Saturday.

The 27 year old Cork native captained the Lions to a 32-10 victory over the Maori All Blacks last Saturday and keeps Tour captain Sam Warburton of Cardiff Blues and Wales on the bench.

The news came as Warren Gatland released his Starting XV on Wednesday evening which includes Tadgh Furlong, Conor Murray and Seán O’Brien.
